Hardware Prep

Surface finish is very important in any sealing system and becomes critical in dynamic applications. If a surface is too rough, then sealability and seal life will be reduced dramatically. Hardness of the dynamic surface is also key to successful sealing. If the dynamic surface is too soft, the sealing lip may wear a groove into the hardware and will lose its ability to seal. Charts 1.1 & 1.2 give suggestions for hardness and surface finish for different applications.
